Attendance

Attendance Policy

Students who are 18 years of age or older, including students who have attended more than 4 years, and mature students, must meet with the principal and sign an agreement to attend regularly and work diligently to fulfill the academic requirements of their courses.

The 18+ student (or parent if the student has given consent) should be informed by their teacher once they

  • have reached 7 absences
  • and / or have accrued multiple incidents of tardiness,
  • and /or if have been laggard in completing work

They will also be informed that they are at risk losing a credit or being discontinued from school.

For students under the age of 18, their parents / guardians should be informed by the teacher once they

  • have reached between 4-7 absences, then 8-11 absences
  • and / or have accrued multiple incidents of tardiness,
  • and /or if have been laggard in completing work

If there is no improvement in the above by, at the very latest, the middle of October (first semester) and March (second semester), the student may

  • have his / her timetable reduced
  • be assigned a resource block.
  • be put on self-directed learning, to be completed outside the school
  • be discontinued from school

This will be done in consultation with teacher(s), parent/guardian, the student's counsellor and the principal.

We encourage all the parents and guardians to be on Parent Connect to proactively check their student's attendance and academic progress.
