Honours and Honours with Distinction

Honours and Honours with Distinction awards are recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement at R.D. Parker Collegiate.

The Honours Award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 80.00% to 84.99% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12.

The Honours with Distinction award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 85% to 100% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12.

Grades 9 to 11

For grades 9-11 the mark will be calculated using all courses the student is taking during the school year and will be generated by CIMS, our school management software.

The exception to this is when students take the same course in the same year to improve their mark. The higher of the 2 marks will be used. Students need to inform the records clerk in the main office for this to apply and their average will be calculated manually.

For Graduates

For grade 12 the mark will be calculated using all grade 12 courses taken in any year including 1 English, 1 Math, 1 PE/HE, and the 2 next best grade 12 elective course marks.

Requirements

In order to qualify for Honours or Honours with Distinction a student must have the following minimum number of courses.

Grade 9 - 8 courses

Grade 10 - 8 courses

Grade 11 - 7 courses

Grade 12 - 5 courses (taken in any year)

Students must have obtained a passing grade in all compulsory credits (PE/HE, Math, Science, ELA, Social Studies) in order to qualify for honours or honours with distinction. Must have successfully achieved the PE credit but will not be used to calculate the average. PE 12 does not have a final grade, rather a complete or incomplete.

Graduating grade 12 honours and honours with distinction students will be recognized receiving a honour cord at the graduation ceremonies held in June.

Grade 9-11 honours and honours with distinction students will be formally recognized at a special honours evening in the fall.
